The House of Commons

I was appointed as a Smart Building BMS Engineer to oversee the witnessing of BMS projects across the parliamentary estate. This role required a comprehensive understanding of the House of Commons’ BMS Standards of Delivery to ensure that all projects adhered to these standards from initial design through to completion. Given the complexity and importance of the estate’s infrastructure, strict protocols were in place to maintain consistency, efficiency, and compliance throughout each project.

The approval process was highly structured, requiring authorisation from both myself and the Design Authority team before any work could proceed. Each stage of development had to be carefully reviewed to confirm alignment with the established standards. This rigorous approach ensured that every aspect of the project met the required specifications, reducing the risk of issues arising later in the process.

Once a project commenced, it underwent four distinct stages of witnessing, each of which had to be successfully completed before final sign-off was granted. These stages provided multiple opportunities to identify and rectify any potential issues, reinforcing quality control at every step. By adhering to this structured witnessing process, we were able to uphold the integrity of the BMS infrastructure across the parliamentary estate, ensuring optimal performance and long-term reliability.
